For days at a time I don't turn on the radio. Why? I can't listen to the hype and tripe of the world gone insane.  I leave it silent, I look out through my windows at the long grass blowing in the wind, the blue sky scattered with soft clouds, the snow gums bending and shaking their leafy heads. A brace of ducks, barely visible in the longer grass, waddle this way and that. The rooster crows, all day at that, the cockatoos and galas sit on the 'chook-mahal'.  We are isolated from the brutality of the world - whether it is because we live in a rural area like I do or whether we live in a city and our lives are ruled by getting to work, getting the kids to school or daycare, getting to university... getting to the beach or walking the dog.

We read the newspapers - so full of hysteria and sadness, we watch our favourite news programs - full of hysteria and sadness, we look at what everyone is posting on social media - full of _______, fill in the blanks as you will.

Today, I have turned on the radio. Big mistake. I have 2 choices - Ray Hadley (2GB network) or SnowFM - music for another, younger generation. Today's big news is the Stereosonic festival in Sydney  - the wasted life of another young and beautiful person - drug overdose. This person could have been an intelligent being. Working, studying, living life - lots of friends no doubt. Imagine the family and friends now - they are the ones to feel sorry for - surely? Our pity and sadness is wasted on that young person - they knew the risks and the consequences. Sorrow and tears are reserved for the family.

On social media a friend has posted a link to the horror that is Syria. I have reposted that link below from a site called 'Save Humanity'. Now this brought tears to my eyes. This is a very tiny snippet of what is going on over in Syria.

"Save Humanity" site - this site seems to be a Palestinian site which shows the brutality of Israelis towards Palestinians.  This  video though is from a Syrian town that was bombed, a young 10-year-old victim tells the story

Again, on social media, another friend has posted a link from the horror of the Kurds - this link is reposted below too.

This link comes from FB Roberta Disbrow  -  simply click on the images from Syria to look at what you don't want to see..

If you don't know the geography of the area that is creating such a burden for the rest of the world in terms of refugees...here it is... don't just listen to the tripe on radio and tv - use your internet to learn something instead of being fed baby formula by the spoonful...

One last link.  The recent elections in Turkey are ringing alarm bells...from an article written by French journalist Celerier:

...'The French government needs to understand that ISIL is simply a tool in the grand scheme of geopolitics. ISIL isn't a "third Reich" and it would be defeated soon; however a victory over ISIL would only be a part of a bigger problem that France and the EU have in front of them — the rise of global Islamic fundamentalism in its aggressive and expansionist form, Celerier said.'

'The development of Islamic banks, media, educational programs and charities all of which support fundamentalist Islamic teachings around the world is the real risk that Europe is facing. Meanwhile ISIL is simply an artificially created organization to conceal and distract the attention of the West from a real threat that has been quickly rising behind the scenes, Celerier argued.'

OR... maybe in comparison... this is more important?

Stereosonic 2015: Woman dies after music festival at Sydney Olympic Park

THE 25-year-old woman who died after the Stereosonic music festival at Sydney Olympic Park is believed to have taken an ecstasy tablet and mixed it with MDMA while a 22-year-old woman has been discharged from hospital, after earlier being placed in an induced coma.

Paramedics rushed young pharmacist Sylvia Choi of Oyster Bay to Concord Hospital where she died last night.

She is believed to have taken an ecstasy tablet but also may have mixed MDMA in a bottle of water.

I am as guilty as others of only reading the headlines, the images posted on social media - we immediately feel empathy, hatred, guilt, sorrow.... the list is endless - this is what social media is for. How many of us take the time to acutally delve into the details and follow the real stories - the real issues? Not many I'm sure. We all have full lives - each day we are innundated with information, meetings, coffee with friends, shopping for Christmas.. projects that take all our time. We rely on media to keep us up to date with the world - do we question how biased this information is and where it originates from.  Keep this in mind when you view the links that I have given above.  I could be delving into the links forever and a day to check the veracity of the contents, but I won't.

I can see how young people are being radicalised as I delve into the very top layers of the first few sites - as you drill deeper and deeper and feel anger, hatred and despair you can understand how the young and impressionable who do not have a cause of their own get sucked into the abyss...
