Best Friends
Black and white, brindled brown and spotted grey merle.
Short and tall, big and small, round and thin.
Ears that flop or stand up straight.
Pink and black noses, wet and dry.
Their voices are soft and whimpering, loud and gruff,
Some howl and some growl.
Their eyes lock on yours, following your every move.
Heads turning from side to side.
So eager to please, so happy to share our lives.
Balls, toys, frisbies and teddies,
These are some of their favourite things.
Don’t forget butterflies, bees and lizards too.
Some love to swim, some won’t put a paw in!
Some walk sedately by your side,
Some charge back and forwards, impatient to run.
Jumping, retrieving, waiting for the next throw.
Our dogs are our best friends, they adore us through and through.
Protecting and sheparding, keeping a watchful eye.
Waiting patiently for their humans to return home,
To sit by our feet, their paws neatly crossed.
Dogs, what more could you want?
